Finding Peace with Food
Do you want peace with food? Or do you feel like cravings keep you in chaos?
Peace rests on the pillars of:
Renovate
Rebuild
Relationships
And moxie is what gets us there.
Renovate:
Definition of renovate: the act or process of repairing, renewing, or restoring to good condition. To restore to life, vigor, or activity: revive.
When we want peace and restoration in our body and soul, it calls for some tearing down, cleaning up, and revamping our way of life.
Physically (and this affects emotions too), we do this by eliminating the toxins like sugar, excesses carbohydrates, processed foods, and anything that is keeping us from being healthy and feeling good.
Rebuild:
Definition of rebuild: build (something) again after it has been damaged or destroyed.
I think if we are honest, we’re all a little broken inside. But we can rebuild if we focus rebuilding from the inside-out. Let’s do the inner work to explore and understand the patterns of our behavior.
When do I overeat or eat food that I KNOW I don’t need?
Let’s recognize and change the habits that have led to our dependence on foods or substances for comfort. If we want peace mentally and physically, we must deal with the root causes of our cravings. Rebuild those broken places by learning how they broke in the first place and what needs to be put in their place now. In order to be free of the obsession, we have to fill that empty space with something else that satisfies us.
Relationships:
Why relationships: because connection is crucial to our survival and our ability to thrive. Our relationship with God and with those around us.
Healthy relationships contribute to our well being. Connecting with others can fulfill our need for belonging and reduce the likelihood of us turning to food or substances for comfort. A strong support network helps us stay accountable for our actions and motivates us to stay committed to a healthy lifestyle. Surround yourself with healthy relationships.
I have a question for you.
What separates those who reach that peace and those who don’t?
I believe it’s moxie. Courage, grit, & commitment.
It’s far too easy to give up, but when we have a moxie mindset, we will keep going and stick with it until we find the peace (NOT perfection) that we desire.
This is not a perfect journey. It’s filled with ups and downs and some days it all goes sideways.
But, if we stay focused, create new habits and awaken our moxie mindset, we can live in the peace that Jesus promised us, as opposed to white knuckling the constant cravings.
This is long, but worth the read, I can relate:
Philippians 3
12-14 I’m not saying that I have this all together, that I have it made. But I am well on my way, reaching out for Christ, who has so wondrously reached out for me. Friends, don’t get me wrong: By no means do I count myself an expert in all of this, but I’ve got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning us onward—to Jesus. I’m off and running, and I’m not turning back.
15-16 So let’s keep focused on that goal, those of us who want everything God has for us. If any of you have something else in mind, something less than total commitment, God will clear your blurred vision—you’ll see it yet! Now that we’re on the right track, let’s stay on it.
17-19 Stick with me, friends. Keep track of those you see running this same course, headed for this same goal. There are many out there taking other paths, choosing other goals, and trying to get you to go along with them. I’ve warned you of them many times; sadly, I’m having to do it again. All they want is easy street. They hate Christ’s Cross. But easy street is a dead-end street. Those who live there make their bellies their gods; belches are their praise; all they can think of is their appetites.
20-21 But there’s far more to life for us. We’re citizens of high heaven! We’re waiting the arrival of the Savior, the Master, Jesus Christ, who will transform our earthy bodies into glorious bodies like his own. He’ll make us beautiful and whole with the same powerful skill by which he is putting everything as it should be, under and around him.
He’s where the peace is,
